Coalition News:

This Week, the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition followed up with the Executive Director of the LA  City Human Relations Commission.  Arriving late and without keys, the ED–Patricia Villaseñor–hosted us in a darkened City Hall corridor as she explained the current machinations over our promised hearings.

We have learned that the HRC is planning on retaining an out of state professor as a consultant to develop surveys and focus groups over issues of public safety.  Our history and research team will be looking into this outside consultant’s work and report back to the Coalition. The coalition was also informed that a great majority of the commissioners on the HRC board are being replaced by the mayor.  The process required to appoint new commissioners means that they will not be confirmed until July.  However, once confirmed Ms. Villasenor indicated she will share the list of the new Commissioners.

We were also able to secure a commitment from the HRC Executive Director to follow up on the letter the HRC was supposed to send to the LAPD Police Commission as a part of the original October 13th motion.

Check out this video of Coalition member and National Lawyers Guild Executive Director Jim Lafferty being man-handled  by a Sheriff’s deputy while he was attempting to serve legal documents at the Fusion Center in Norwalk at our April 10th Action.

In the Media:

In a revealing document dump, the New York Times has published a trove of files detailing government surveillance used against the Occupy Movement in 2011 and 2012.  These documents reveal that Fusion Centers were instrumental in the coordinated targeting of the Occupy Movement.

Will We Sleep Or Will We Fight!??!
