Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:
On Sunday (11/5):
The Coalition in collaboration with the Downtown Women’s Action Coalition held another town hall to discuss our most recent report on the Department of Child and Family Services. The town hall was a space for women to share their experiences with policing and DCFS, while talking through steps we can take to fight back. To learn more about our report visit stoplapdspying.org/dcfs.
On Tuesday (11/7):
The Coalition held our monthly Gender and Sexuality webinar where we discussed how narratives around violence against women and children are used to sanitize violence against Palestinians. We also learned about upcoming interagency collaborative efforts to increase the criminalization of sex workers in the Figueroa Corridor.
On Thursday (11/9):
This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured student organizers with Students for Justice in Palestine. Students from two different campuses discussed the ever increasing climate of political repression and criminalization students are enduring as a result of Zionist backlash. Students discussed condemnations from university administrations and congress, and what building power looks like in these conditions. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
Later that day the Coalition met with the Anti Carceral Health Collective to continue building out our fight against SB 43 and Care Courts here in California.
That evening we held a Speak Out and Teach In in solidarity with the National Day to Shut it Down for Palestine. Roughly 70 people participated in front of Central Division in Skid Row, where we drew connections between Skid Row and Gaza as proving grounds for military technologies and tactics exchanged through collaborative trainings by LAPD and IDF.
