Weekly Update – June 16, 2023 –

Greetings friends, check out what we’ve been up to:

On Sunday (6/11), the Coalition was at Echo Park Lake discussing the cameras placed in the park by LAPD, following the violent raid in March of 2021. The Coalition unveiled a map identifying the cameras’ locations and capabilities obtained from the LAPD through a public records lawsuit. Community members walked and counted the cameras (which exceeded the 33 documented by the LAPD in the after action report) and reconvened to discuss questions we want answered about the cameras.

You can see photos from the event here, and watch this informational video we filmed on Echo Park Lake here.

On Tuesday (6/13) the Coalition held our monthly War on Youth webinar over zoom. During this meeting, attendees and work group members reviewed our semester long residency at Stem to the Future. Attendees also participated in meme making in anticipation of our youth day in the park.

On Wednesday (6/14) we held our first reading circle for our report, principally authored by Victoria Copeland in partnership with the Downton Women’s Action Coalition, Dividing and Conquering Familie(s).

On Thursday (6/15), Radio Insurrection welcomed guest Cloee Cooper to discuss national white nationalist activity within Sheriffs’ departments across the country.

On Friday, we celebrated Juneteenth at our home in LA CAN!
