WEEKLY UPDATE – July 26, 2024

Check out what we’ve been up to:

On Saturday 7/20:

The Coalition held our first Youth Day at the Park of 2024!

On Monday 7/22:

The Coalition led a LASAR training with a cohort of young organizers working with Youth Justice Coalition.

On Tuesday 7/23:

On Tuesday morning the Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners meeting, where we condemned the long list of donations being accepted by the department provided by the Los Angeles Police Foundation. The Coalition named the LAPD as supplicants to the wealthy donors who then dictate how the department doles out its violence.

That evening we held our monthly Data Driven Policing community meeting at LA CAN. This month we discussed our Architecture of Surveillance project and an upcoming project focusing on Axon.

On Thursday 7/25:

During this week’s episode Radio Insurrection, we were in conversation with Shakeel Syed, executive director of the South Asian Network. This week we discussed the upcoming City Council motion that would use city resources to fund a private Zionist militia.

On Friday 7/26:

The Coalition held our monthly Movie Night outside LAPD headquarters. This month we screened Prisoners of Conscience, a 1978 film by Anand Patwardhan. Prisoners of Conscience documents the imprisonment and torture of Indian political dissenters under the rule of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
