Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:
Tuesday 2/20:
On Tuesday we held our monthly General Meeting at LA CAN. This month we discussed the cooptation of Black History month by LAPD, and how DEI is used by the department to sanitize the racist violence enacted by the department. We discussed how these efforts are being used to expand policing and their resources.
Thursday 2/22:
During Thursday’s episode of Radio Insurrection, we were in conversation with Cathi Choi from Women Cross DMZ / Korea Peace Now! and Yoon Ra, a filmmaker and cultural organizer. We delved into topics such as the LAPD, how the expansion of US military efforts abroad fuels militarization here at home, and explored the ways in which culture and ancestral wisdom are empowering our resistance against oppressive structures. Friday 2/23:
On Friday we held our monthly movie night outside of LAPD headquarters. This month we screened ‘Framing the Panthers,’ a documentary on the targeting of Black Panther Party leader Dhoruba Bin Wahad by the federal government’s COINTELPRO program.
