WEEKLY UPDATE – Feb 16, 2024

Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:

On Saturday 2/10:

The Coalition hosted 23 middle schoolers from Changeist to discuss the intersection between policing and homelessness. Todd Cunningham from LA CAN’s Food and Wellness Committee discussed food apartheid in Skid Row, and the work of other committees at LA CAN. The Coalition’s very own Michelle Chang walked the students through different LAPD Homeless Crisis Response Programs and connected these programs to youth surveillance programs.

On Monday 2/12:

The Coalition provided jail support for four protesters who were arrested by LAPD following a pro-Palestinian protest outside of the Federal Building. The protesters were charged with felony tagging and held at Van Nuys station. They were released early the next morning.

On Tuesday 2/13:

The Coalition spoke out against a performative Black History Month presentation held by LAPD. That evening we held our monthly War on Youth webinar.

On Thursday 2/15:

The Coalition supported an early morning Palestinian Youth Movement action targeting Senator Alex Padilla for his complicity in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

That evening, on Radio Insurrection, we discussed Inglewood School District’s over 12 year long receivership with local organize Fre’Drisha Dixon. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives
