WEEKLY UPDATE – August 9, 2024

Check out what we’ve been up to:

On Sunday 8/4:

The Coalition’s Community Policing working group continued their monthly outreach at Nickerson Gardens. The working group has been discussing the presence of police at the housing complex with residents.

On Tuesday 8/6:

The Coalition held its monthly Gender and Sexuality community meeting. This month’s meeting featured guests from York University who exhibited the early stages of a map made in collaboration with the G&S working group mapping the targeting of sex workers by police across Los Angeles.

This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured a conversation about a new motion introduced by Yaroslavsky and Blumenfield that would broadly criminalize protest. We also heard from our summer legal intern Sarika Ram, who completed her internship with the Coalition this week. Among her many accomplishments Sarika worked on our lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School Districr. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
