11/18:
This past Tuesday, the Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners meeting where we continued to disrupt and expose them as a rubber stamping body that green lights LAPD’s violence. While Teresa symbolically extended the public comment period, folks were kicked out of the room and denied the chance to make comment. Despite all of that, we were able to build power together and make our voices heard.
That evening, we held our monthly general meeting where we watched “Screaming Queens,” a movie about anti-police riot in San Francisco’s tenderloin. We had a conversation afterwards about queer resistance, particularly via drawing connections between queer life in the Tenderloin and Skid Row!
11/19:
The Coalition supported LA CAN in their community watch this Wednesday while LAPD conducted a huge sweep on Crocker street. We will continue to fight against the inhumanity and policing that LAPD and LA SAN continue to perpetuate across the city of LA.
11/21:
We went to support LA CAN’s DWAC on Friday when they went to the Commission on the Status of Women where we were able to hear from women from Skid Row and fight back together against the ongoing sweeps, and to uplift what safety really means for women in Skid Row!
Later that evening, we held our monthly movie night where we showed “Maat” by Fox Maxy and “We Love Being Lakota,” where we were able to learn together about ongoing Indigenous and Native American resistance.
11/23:
On Saturday, we had Youth Day in the Park where we did created and painted fake surveillance objects and then did a scavenger hunt together to look for (and destroy) surveillance objects that we made. We hid the [fake cardboard] cameras throughout the park and then we all found them, knocked them out of the trees, and stomped on them!
Later that evening, we went to USC SJP’s art & giving fundraiser event. They had plant seeds, block printing, letter writing, and much more!
