Weekly Update 05/11

05/06:
This part Tuesday the Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners Meeting where we exposed them for their recent report on the ways that they report on Task Forces they are a part of. The report was rife with inconsistencies and inaccuracies in what we realize was another way for them to obfuscate the truth about LAPD’s collaboration with federal agencies such as ICE.
That evening we held our monthly Gender and Sexuality meeting where we talked about what repair can look like for those who have experienced domestic violence, as well as the state’s response and their conflicting and contradictory demonization and criminalization of Black and brown communities.

05/07:
The Coalition attended the Public Safety City Council Meeting on Wednesday where they were deciding on which divisions to prioritize for Real Time Crime Centers (RTCCs) — which are LAPD spy hubs that would enable each division to have access to real time footage. We will continue to fight back against the implementation of RTCCs in any division!

05/09:
On Friday, the Coalition attended The People’s Tribunal and spoke on a panel with some kick-ass students from UCLA and USC about Police Repression of pro-Palestinian solidarity actions and beyond. We also attended LA CAN’s Resident Organizing Committee meeting!

05/10:
Saturday was day two of the Tribunal, where the Coalition talked about our fightback against anti-extremism frameworks that are used in conjunction with ideologies like anti-Blackness and anti-Muslim racism to criminalize young folks. We also attended the Community Self-Defense Coalition meeting to talk about out continued work against ICE raids and the myth of the sanctuary city.
