Weekly Update 03/23

This week, we visited Cal State LA to chat with students about art in the movement, as well as Flock, and our work to fight against the war on youth. On Tuesday 3/17, we attended the Board of Police Commissioner’s Meeting which was later canceled! We had our monthly General Community Meeting that evening where we talked about proactive practices of care in our community, the current political moment, and we listened to the public comments from the Board of Police Commissioner’s Meeting two weeks ago when DWAC gave comments against Flock.

On Wednesday, we attended the Human and Civil Rights Committee meeting and the Tenants Rights Committee had their action to demand better living conditions in housing in Skid Row. On Thursday 3/19, we went to DWAC’s meeting to talk about the increased criminalization of sex workers on Fig, but also throughout LA. We discussed talking points and ways to make our demands known to end surveillance and criminalization of sex workers. That evening, we made a banner with our Fight Against the War on Youth working group for our future youth days. The banner is still unfinished because we have to add components from the art we co-created at our previous youth day.

On Friday 3/20, we did community watch with LA CAN, and then on Saturday, we attended NOlympics Liberation Field Day where we hosted our Youth Day in the Park. We played soccer, ate delicious food, shared art, and got to connect with folks on (but mostly off) the soccer field 🙂
