The first half will be for our Fight Against the War on Youth where we will be discussing how “Countering Violent Extremism” frameworks and national security surveillance are impacting Muslim, Arab, Black, Brown, Immigrant, and Indigenous youth in schools. We will begin with a workshop about the pitfalls of the terrorism framework, the impact of PATHE, the intent of CVE to repress and criminalize political organizing, and the role of Zionist organizations in implementing surveillance programs. We will also invite participants to join our campaign and share ways that we can take action and build power together, using our positions as educators, youth, social workers, parents, or community members to stop CVE and end surveillance in our schools and communities. We will offer resources and ways to prepare for our upcoming action at LA City Council to #AbolishPATHE.
Additionally, in the second half, we will be hosting Part 2 of Stop LAPD Spying Coalition’s online series of community conversations for collective learning, analysis, sharing, and building on our report Automating Banishment: The Surveillance and Policing of Looted Land. Part 1 of the community conversations was held on Dec 21st. It included the Introduction and Section 1 of the report. We were honored to be joined by Grandma Gloria, a Tongva community elder, who shared her lived experiences, analysis, and comments.
