The Coalition supported LA CAN’s 25th Annual Labor Day celebration in Skid Row. LA CAN provided music and food for all community members in attendance, and Hamid and Shakeer spoke about the Coalition’s work. On Tuesday 9/3:
The Coalition provided public comment at the weekly Board of Police Commissioners Meeting. This week we spoke out against a Los Angeles Police Foundation donation for drones.
That evening we held our monthly Gender and Sexuality community meeting at LA CAN.
On Thursday 9/5:
This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured guests Baba Akili, Director of the Fannie Lou Hamer Institute and member of Black Lives Matter Grassroots, and Carolina Valle of Disability Rights California. The pair discussed Prop 36, the upcoming ballot measure seeking to ramp up criminalization of communities in California by turning many misdemeanors into felonies. On Friday 9/6:
The Coalition and LA CAN bid a “see you later” to our comrade and dear friend Shakeer, who will be moving his legal shenanigans from their usual home at LA CAN to a presumably nomadic practice that will likely still involve him spending a (hopefully) substantial amount of time with us. We appreciate you Shakeer!!
