WEEKLY UPDATE – September 20, 2024

On Saturday 9/14:

The Coalition attended a city-wide organizing convening hosted by LA CAN to address the upswell in the criminalization of homelessness in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday 9/17:

The Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners meeting to speak out against the deployment of Real Time Crime Centers in the Central Area.

Later that day the War on Youth working group attended the Board of Education’s Committee of the Whole meeting to speak out against the District’s continued withholding of public records related to the Los Angeles Schools Anonymous Reporting App.

That evening we held our general meeting. Alongside our regular updates we participated in a collective reading of the first section of Automating Banishment. You can read our report at automatingbanishment.org.

On Thursday 9/19:

This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured a conversation with our attorney and organizer, Shakeer Rahman. We discussed City Council’s history of fuckery under Council President Paul Krekorian, CCED’s victory over a villainous pair of landlords, and UCPD’s arsenal of military weaponry. That evening members of the Coalition attended the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council meeting, where they were discussing submitting a Community Impact Report in opposition to Yaroslavsky and Blumenfield’s motion criminalizing protest across LA. The statement was passed unanimously.

On Friday 9/20:

The Coalition supported LA CAN’s Skid Row Wellness Marketplace.
