WEEKLY UPDATE – November 22, 2024

Check out what we’ve been up to:

Sat 11/16:

The Coalition held our monthly youth day in the park. This month our exercises focused on honoring Indigenous resistance and examining how borders have changed over time due to settler-colonialism.

Tue 11/19:

The Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners meeting where we spoke out against a donation by Watts 2 Boston, a foundation that perpetuates racist stereotypes about Black Los Angeles neighborhoods and “helps” communities by pairing Black and brown children with white families in Boston for mentorship. The donation will be received by LAPD’s Community Safety Partnership Bureau, LAPD’s community policing arm that is largely situated within public housing projects including projects in Watts.

That evening we held our monthly general meeting, where we reflected on tactics and strategies following the recent election results and concluded our conversation on LAPD’s after action reports on the protests at USC and UCLA.

Thu 11/21:

On Thursday, our War on Youth working group shared our work with members of Oxy SJP.

That evening on Radio Insurrection, members of USC SJP joined the show to talk about their reflections on LAPD’s after action report on the USC protests and the recent elections. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
