On Tuesday 6/25:
The Coalition attended the Board of Police Commissioners meeting where we condemned the LAPD’s brutalization of pro-Palestinian protesters on the 6/16.
Later that afternoon, the Coalition spoke at a press conference alongside the Palestinian youth movement condemning the city’s sanitization of Zionist violence levied against protesters during the 6/16 protest. You can watch the press conference here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C8qAwKeSCh9/
That evening we held our Data Driven Policing community meeting at LA CAN. This month we workshopped our Architecture of Surveillance community resource and exhibited some of its capabilities to community members in Skid Row.
On Thursday 6/27:
During this week’s episode of Radio Insurrection, we were in conversation with representatives from the Palestinian Youth Movement and Jewish Voices for Peace about the city’s violent response to the protest held on 6/16, and the then announced efforts to criminalize masking and fund a private Zionist militia. KPFK general manager Michael Novick joined us in the studio to discuss his history of abolitionist work and the importance of KPFK in uplifting and maintaining that history.
On Friday 6/28:
The Coalition held our monthly movie night. This month we presented Black Nations?/Queer Nations? This film beautifully documents a 1995 convening of gay, lesbian, and transgender members of the African Diaspora. Featuring incredible insights from Black feminist scholar Barbara Smith and poet/activist Essex Hemphill (among others), the film discusses intersections of liberation we still struggle toward today.
