WEEKLY UPDATE – Jan 19, 2024

Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:

On Monday 1/14:

The Coalition supported a King Day candle light vigil held at Africa Town (commonly called Leimert Park). The Coalition spoke about how Martin Luther King Jr is weaponized by the state to sanitize the racist violence this country continues to enact upon Black Americans. Our very own General Dogon talked about the city’s continued war against unhoused Angelenos, a population that’s disproportionately Black.

On Tuesday 1/15:

The Coalition held our monthly General Meeting. Attendees heard an overview of our varying fights and our goals for the upcoming year.

On Wednesday 1/16:

The Coalition continued our weekly abolitionist organizing curriculum with youth at the Imperial Courts housing project in Watts.

On Thursday 1/17:

This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured a conversation between Hamid and Matyos about the announced resignation of LAPD Chief Michel Moore. We also discussed the history of corruption and racism as documented in our Chief’s Zine. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
