WEEKLY UPDATE – August 30, 2024

On Saturday 8/24: The Coalition held our monthly Youth Day in the park. This month youth learned about Black August, colored images of revolutionaries, and created a piñata embodying things the youth wanted to abolish.

On Tuesday 8/27:

The Coalition held our monthly data driven policing meeting where the community provided input on our new Architecture of Surveillance tool.

On Thursday 8/29:

During this week’s episode of Radio Insurrection we discussed the recent Palestinian Youth Movement led protest against Maersk, the multi-billion dollar Danish shipping conglomerate managing logistics for the delivery of weapons to the Zionist state. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.

On Friday 8/30:

The Coalition held our monthly movie night. This month we exhibited two features:

Our first film was Evidence of the Evidence (2018) by Alexander Johnston, a compilation of state trooper footage surveilling the rebels in Attica during their uprising. (Runtime: 22 min)

Our second feature was an untitled and uncredited collection of interviews with George Jackson, Georgia Jackson (his mother), Angela Davis, and San Quentin prisoners and prison guards in the months preceding and following the assassination of George Jackson. (Runtime: 28 min)
