WEEKLY UPDATE – April 12, 2024

Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:

On Saturday and Sunday 4/6-4/7:

The War on Youth working group conducted two days of outreach in our fight against LAUSD’s Los Angeles Schools Anonymous Reporting app. On Saturday we were in LA Historic Park speaking to guests at the Los Angeles Public Library’s City of Stem event. On Sunday we were speaking to community members in the West Hollywood area. The working group will be conducting regular outreach in the upcoming weekends. To join us, email stoplapdspying@gmail.com.

On Monday 4/8:

The Coalition participated in a teach-in at Claremont College with the campus’s Prison Abolition student group. We discussed local policing’s ties with the Zionist state, and how the information sharing environment works with college campuses.

On Tuesday 4/9:

The Coalition spoke out against LAPD’s acquisition of the Real Time Crime Center system at the Board of Police Commissioners and City Council’s Public Safety Committee.

That evening we held our monthly War on Youth webinar where we discussed the importance of conducting outreach and how counterinsurgency programs manifest themselves in the wake of mass uprisings.

On Thursday 4/11:

The Coalition led a political education hour at Homeboy Industries. The crew covered a broad outline of our work and participated in some public records request crafting with participants.

That evening on Radio Insurrection, Hamid Khan and Shakeer Rahman discussed the role of surveillance bureaucracy in expanding LAPD resources. They also discussed recent efforts by the city attorney to criminalize the acquisition of public records. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
