This past week at the Coalition, attended the Board of Police Commissioner’s Meeting where we continued to expose them for the collusion with Flock “safety.” 8/11 was the first meeting they held since the OIG’s public listening session, and unsurprisingly, his report back to the commission was rife with lies. Despite the majority of the commenters demanding a complete end to LAPD’s partnership with all ALPR vendors, without guardrails, reforms, or new contractors, but the OIG pretended the listening session was split, and neglected to mention that most participants were asking for a full and complete end to all ALPRs. Additionally, they had inaccurate numbers about how many petition signatures were sent in that were demanding an end to all partnerships with Flock Safety.
Later that evening, we held our monthly War on Youth meeting. We gave updates from our fight against Flock Safety, presented the work of our Youth Interns, and we continued to build out games and using play as a way to connect, resist, and learn!
On Wednesday 8/12, the Coalition attended LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights meeting and we had our Data Driven Policing working group meeting. On Thursday, we went to the Downtown Women’s Action Coalition campaign meeting, as well as our Family Policing meeting, where we are unpacking and exposing the violence of DCFS!
