On Tuesday, we held our monthly Data Driven Policing community meeting where we discussed the information sharing environment and how it is a pipeline to deportation. We did a deep dive of how information and data is shared between and among federal and local agencies, and we began to talk through our fightback to abolish the information sharing environment!
05/29:
The Coalition held a teach-in on the ’92 Riots on Thursday, where we went over the history of the righteous riots in Los Angeles with the Legacy Library at Black Lantern Books. We talked about how the narratives have been re-written to fulfill the counterinsurgent aims of the state and white supremacy, but we also talked about the spirit and power of the people during the riots in 1992 as we celebrate the spirit of uprising, riot, and rebellion in our everyday lives.
05/30:
On Friday, we held our monthly movie night where we showed clips and interviews of the 92 riots from the K-town (Koreatown) 92 Archives. We discussed the impact of the clear white supremacist lens of news media, as well as how Asian Americans and other ethnic groups are deputized to enact anti-Black racism and violence on behalf of the state.
