This past week, the Coalition got prepared to mobilize to the Board of Police Commissioners Meeting. We met on Monday 6/1 to talk through talking points, and prepare our public comments together. On Tuesday morning, we attended the meeting itself and exposed them once more for their continued partnerships with Flock Safety — the harmful automatic license plate reader company that has been criminalizing our youth, undocumented community, sex workers, abortion seekers, gender affirming care seekers, and everyone across the city.
That evening on 6/2, we held our monthly gender and sexuality meeting! On Wednesday we attended LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights meeting where we planned our art walk outreach day! We also met with out academic complicity group, and then attended Ghetto Run Club’s incredible event! We tabled and spoke on a panel after the runners did a community run.
On Thursday 6/4, the coalition went to support LA CAN at DTLA Art Walk where we did outreach with LA CAN, heard testimonials, and talked about Flock! On Saturday 6/6, we spoke at a panel with CalSTERS Divest where we shared about surveillance, and got to learn about the CalSTERS investments, and their incredible work to divest from genocide and israeli apartheid. Later that afternoon, we also celebrated one year of resistance with the Community Self Defense Coalition in Paramount, and on Sunday, we stood in solidarity with Boycott HomeDepot as well in the ongoing fight against the ICE Raids.
