This past week, the coalition went to the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting, which is now ruled by the new “president,” Rasha Shields. We continued to uplift our fight to cancel LAPD’s MOU with Flock “safety.” We also attended LA CAN’s DWAC healing circle on 4/28, where we got to connect with folks, and do art projects and enjoy a meal together.
That evening, we held our monthly Data Driven Policing meeting, where we talked about the algorithmic ecology, and we even made one together for our fight against Flock. It was an incredible tool to help us power map our fight together more!
On 4/29, we attended LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights meeting, and then we held our bi-weekly Shut it Down working group meetings. On Friday, May 1st, we celebrated and protested together for May Day! We attended the Community Self Defense Coalition’s May Day Celebration, and got to build power together in the streets on this day of international solidarity with workers around the world! On Saturday, May 2nd, we got the chance to attend an incredible workshop on conflict resolution.
