Weekly Update 04/21

04/14
This Monday, we began our Spring Break Internship with amazing high school students who began to unpack the power structures of LA, and identify and create popular education for community members. The internship went from Monday to Thursday this week!

04/15
We held a press conference on Tuesday morning in front of LAPD Headquarters in order to continue to expose how this city’s Sanctuary City Ordinance is a myth. The city’s information sharing environment is baked in, and the only way for LAPD to stop sharing information, is for LAPD to have no information to share! After the press conference, we read our letter to the Board of Police Commissioners exposing their lies: https://stoplapdspying.org/letter-to-bopc-on-sanctuary-city-april-15-2025/
That evening, we held our monthly General Meeting where we played a cooperative economics game called Co-opoly!

04/19
On Saturday, the Coalition attended UCLA’s Call Festival to talk about our work against the War on Youth and the ways youth are criminalized, and what our fightback looks like! That afternoon, we held our monthly Youth Day in the Park! We made linocuts (a type of art similar to stamps) with popular education and art targeting the War on Youth.
A few Coalition members also went to the Bay Area and spoke at the National Cop Watch Conference about going beyond a traditional practice of copwatch, and towards a rigorous model of exposing the system and its pigs!
