Weekly Update 03/09

On March 3rd, the Coalition held a press conference outside of LAPD HQ to fight against Flock and LAPD’s partnership. We know that LAPD’s use of Flock cameras criminalizes Angelenos, from immigration to criminalization of sex work, LAPD uses Flock to hunt, track, surveil, and abduct our community members. After the press conference, we went inside the Board of Police Commissioners meeting to continue to demand that they shut Flock down!

That evening, we had our monthly Gender and Sexuality community meeting, where we continued to dive deeper into how ALPRs are used to criminalize sex workers and abortion seekers, including how ALPRs are used to automate criminalization through “Dear John” letters.

On Wednesday, we went to LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights meeting! And we did community watch as the violence of “tents down” continues to be enforced in Skid Row.

On Saturday March 7th, we had a workshop with our coordinating team on structure and how we can continue to build, grow, and hone in on our conflict resolution practices.
