02/04:
On Tuesday, we attended the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting to debunk their inaccurate and dehumanizing narratives regarding the recent protests against ICE. We also fought back against the exorbitant spending for internet crimes prevention, and a symposium for women police officers, and the ways in which such events/funding are used to sanitize the realities of LAPD’s violence.
That evening, we held our monthly Gender and Sexuality meeting where we talked about and worked through an Algorithmic Ecology specific to Automated Decision Making (ADMT).
02/05:
On Wednesday afternoon, the Coalition went to the Public Safety Committee meeting to fight back against the city’s implementation of Automatic License Plate Readers, which are used by law enforcement to track people’s movements, share information between agencies, and utilizes facial recognition technology.
02/06:
The Coalition attended an evening meeting with the Community Self-Defense Coalition with Union del Barrio to work with organizations across LA to fight against ICE raids together.
2/07:
Our first Architecture of Surveillance (AOS) post went up, from our amazing AOS team, highlighting what AOS is, and how it is used as a functionary of the state/city to share information between and among agencies like DHS, CBP, ICE, and LAPD.
2/08:
On Saturday, the Coalition met with awesome young folks from Changeist where we had a presentation/conversation about policing, surveillance, and the War on Youth via programs like PATHE and LASAR.
We also attended an amazing evening event with LA CAN — “Convos and Tasters”!
