Stop LAPD Spying Coalition Fundraiser – March 25TH 2022
Join us on Tuesday, March 15 at 6pm as we continue our online series of community conversations for collective learning, analysis, sharing, and building on Stop LAPD Spying Coalition’s report Automating Banishment: The Surveillance and Policing of Looted Land.
This Tuesday, we begin our discussion of Part 4 of the report, Containment, Development, and the Fight for Freedom in Skid Row, a deep dive into the history of containment, banishment, and neglect that have long characterized policing and governance of Skid Row. We discuss how this is violence that today’s data-driven policing programs help automate. We will be joined by members of our Skid Row community, organizers with the Los Angeles Community Action Network, and allies in the resistance for a robust conversation informed by folks with deep knowledge of and connection to Skid Row. We will discuss the history of Skid Row, blight, neglect, and the logics of banishment and containment, the surveillance and policing of poor and unhoused communities, the state and private agents of terror, and what the fight ahead looks like. Join us in conversation and to build power in our fight!
