Join us for our monthly webinar for the fight against the War on Youth. This month we will be talking about our escalating organizing against the Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) grant awarded to the LAPD to expand their Providing Alternatives to Hinder Extremism (PATHE) Program. The LAPD plans to use this grant to deputize 500 educators, therapists, and faith leaders to spy on community members. We will hear from organizers, educators, and students about how the expansion of PATHE and the assessment of pseudo-scientific “risk factors” would stifle their authentic self-expression and discourage resistance. We’ll also hear from organizers who successfully pushed back against the implementation of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) grant in 2018 about how these programs are rebranded to insidiously make their way back to our communities and enact the same harm.
Additionally, in the second half, we will be hosting Part 3A of Stop LAPD Spying Coalition’s online series of community conversations for collective learning, analysis, sharing, and building on our report Automating Banishment: The Surveillance and Policing of Looted Land. We will be discussing the linkages between real estate development, capitalist crisis, and data-driven policing and how they legitimize violent gentrification through the use of criminal and property laws to further the ongoing settler-colonial project. We will focus on specific instances of corporate takeover of residential housing stock in poor and Black neighborhoods through the use of CNAP (Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program), data-driven policing’s LASER zones, and Business Improvement Districts to target Black neighborhoods for white capital and the expansion of police terror and surveillance. Join us in conversation and to build power in our fight!
