The National Security Police State always uses crisis like this to expand oppression, to expand surveillance, accumulate new weapons, push boundaries and justify its violence.  Join us at Stop LAPD Spying Coalition over Zoom for our Power Not Paranoia webinar series starting on Tuesday March 31 at 6 PM followed by Part 2 on Thursday April 2nd at 6 PM.

The first conversation was committed to better understand Our Fight for us to Fight Back.  We will be joined by Prof. Bita Amani, Ph.D., M.H.S from Charles Drew University and Co-Chair, COVID-19 Task force on Racism and Equity at UCLA and our very own Jamie Garcia R.N., BSN.  We will be addressing questions and concerns such as:

  • What public health principles should we be considering when organizing in a COVID pandemic?
  • What kinds of healthcare and health related needs should we be considering when thinking of the impact of COVID?
  • Can COVID help us to create more solidarity between the healthcare workforce and the movements and communities most at risk?
  • What would a public health victory look like?

The second conversation on Thurs April 2 will examine the historic and current expansion of police powers in times of crisis, Real and Concocted. We will be joined by Kath Rogers, Executive Director National Lawyers Guild – LA and Andrea Ritchie who is a writer, lawyer, and activist for women of color, especially LGBTQ women of color, who have been victims of police violence.
