Coalition Hosts California Convening

In partnership with Arab Resource and Organizing Center, Allied Media Projects, Community Justice Network for Youth, Center for Media Justice, Ella Baker Center and Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition hosted a two day convening in Los Angeles on October 3rd and 4th on Surveillance, Spying and Infiltration.  Close to 20 organizations including LA based organizations such as LA CAN, YJC, Dignity and Power, Critical Resistance and Gender Justice LA came together with fellow social justice organizers from other parts of California to engage in dialogue on intersectional movement-building, sharing of skills and knowledge, and strategize on dismantling surveillance and the police state in our lives and local communities.

Various participating grass root organizations identified the continued need to ground the dialogue in our day to day lived experience in order to build grassroots movements that expose, challenge and organize against the escalating militarization of law enforcement and policies that foster a culture of suspicion and fear, promote racial profiling, and invade privacy.  The convening concluded with a shared understanding to explore opportunities to build together. Many thanks to CARECEN for opening their space.

Will We Sleep Or Will We Fight!??!
