This past week at the coalition, we attended the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday 8/25. We also held our monthly Data Driven Policing community meeting where we talked about the history of Data Driven Policing, and how we are shifting the fight to include Real Time Crime Centers, spy hubs that are fed by ALPR data and other real time data.
On Wednesday, we attended LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights meeting, and then we made pubic comment at LA City’s Public Safety Committee Meeting, where Rasha Shield’s reappointment to the Board of Police Commissioners, and Fusion Centers were on the agenda. On Friday, we had Movie Night with LA CAN’s Food and Wellness Committee where we showed “Earth Seed,” an incredible documentary that follows the path from Octavia Butler’s Book, “Parable of the Sower,” exploring organizations, communities, and people fighting for food justice and sovereignty in California.
On Saturday, we held a convening with “Media Justice” to shut down the stalker state! We met with groups from all over Southern California, including LA County, OC, Imperial Valley, the Inland Empire, San Diego, and more! We talked through our respective fights, campaigns, and how we can work together!
