WEEKLY UPDATE 6/27

This week on Tuesday, the Board of Police Commissioners was cancelled once again. With the Flock partnership expiring this July 11, we must amp up pressure to demand LAPD end all partnerships with Flock “Safety”! We had an incredible Data Driven Policing community meeting where we learned and did an activity connecting present day surveillance and carceral technologies to policing and white supremacist practices used against enslaved Black folks. We know policing and surveillance is not a moment in time, but a continuation of history.

On Tuesday, we also joined LA CAN’s Downtown Women’s Action Coalition meeting, and on Wednesday, we joined LA CAN’s Human and Civil Rights Meeting. We also had our academic complicity working group meeting, and Flock committee meetings, where we continue to build out the fight against Flock and all surveillance.

On Thursday, we joined DWAC’s campaign meeting, and also had our Gender & Sexuality working group meeting. On Friday, we joined DWAC to attend the Stolen Children’s Month Vigil at the Edelman Children’s Court in continuation of our fight to expose and dismantle the family policing system. We also had our Monthly Movie Night, watching three incredible, rare shorts about the Black Panther Party. We continue to honor and learn from the BPP and Black radical tradition.

On Saturday, we joined Community Self Defense Coalition’s general meeting, as we continue to build up power, and expose LAPD’s fundamental collaboration with ICE. We also did Flock outreach in Leimert Park to continue to build relationships and consciousness around the ways LAPD is harming our communities. Join the fight!
