This past week, the Coalition went to the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday 5/12 where various non-profit groups presented to the Board. While they used some of our talking points about Flock, they were simultaneously asking for support from the police. We understand there is no such thing as taking ICE out of LAPD, because LAPD is the blueprint for ICE. LAPD’s information sharing with other agencies is baked into the very foundation of the policing project. We continued this conversation in the evening while we held our monthly [Fight Against the] War on Youth Meeting. We talked about the Board of Police Commissioner’s meeting, but also about the policing of play (for both youth and adults). We talked about forms of play as resistance, and the policing of play across the globe.
Later this week, we went to LA CAN’s Human and Civil Right’s Meeting where we talked about the DTLA Art Night event we attended last week. We also talked about collective deep study together, and what is happening in the neighborhood! On Thursday 5/14, we had our Gender and Sexuality Working Group meeting, and on Friday 5/15, we attended LA CAN’s Justice and Wellness Marketplace: Seeds of of Resistance, Fruits of Change! We got to chat with folks, enjoy a delicious meal, fantastic music, and build relationships and power together. This weekend, we have our Youth Day in the Park where we will be continuing to do art together and making protest art for our fight against Flock Safety!
