WEEKLY UPDATE – September 13, 2024

On Saturday 9/7:

The Coalition’s Community Policing working group conducted our monthly outreach at Nickerson Gardens.

On Tuesday 9/10:

The Coalition spoke out at the weekly Board of Police Commissioners meeting against increased federal funding for the Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC), the Southern California fusion center.

That afternoon, the Coalition attend the Los Angeles Public Safety Committee meeting where a new motion by Zionist Councilmembers Yaroslavsky and Blumenfield was on the agenda for discussion. The new motion would broadly criminalize protest and came about in response to pro-Palestinian protest. The motion was continued in response to overwhelming Community Opposition.

That evening we held our monthly War on Youth Community Meeting. This month we were joined by Ron Gochez, local educator and organizer, who talked to guests about how to best protect our educators from doxxing and targeting.

On Wednesday 9/11:

The Coalition held our monthly Coordinating Team meeting. This month we welcomed two new Coordinating Team members: Deshonay Dozier from the Community Policing working group and Michelle Chang from the War on Youth working group.
