WEEKLY UPDATE – April 19, 2024

Greetings dear friends, here’s what we’ve been up to:

On Tuesday 4/16:

The Coalition attended a special Board of Police Commissioners Meeting at Bishop Alemany High School. The meeting which is normally held at 9:30 am at LAPD HQ, was held in the evening allowing more people to access the meeting.

The Commission entertained a performative presentation from cops and their supporters, while silencing and ejecting Black community members speaking out against racist policing.

On Thursday 4/18:

This week’s episode of Radio Insurrection featured a conversation with organizers across Los Angeles who are planning a march for May Day. The group discussed intersections between policing here and home and US imperialist violence being enacted globally.

On Friday 4/19:

The Coalition supported LA CAN’s Skid Row Wellness Marketplace.

That evening on Radio Insurrection, Hamid Khan and Shakeer Rahman discussed the role of surveillance bureaucracy in expanding LAPD resources. They also discussed recent efforts by the city attorney to criminalize the acquisition of public records. You can listen to the episode at kpfk.org/archives.
