Spring Into Abolition: Fundraiser and Celebration

On Friday, March 25, 2022, the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition and Resource Generation LA are hosting SPRING INTO ABOLITION, a fundraiser and celebration to mark a decade of the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition! This will be a live virtual event on zoom featuring exclusive performances, storytelling, and collective learning.

The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition works to build community power toward abolishing the police state. We are rooted in the Skid Row neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles. We believe that creating a world without police surveillance requires uplifting the expertise and political power of the communities most harmed by policing. Collective study, community-based research, direct action are crucial to our work, decolonizing “expertise” about surveillance and policing and building a culture of resistance to the police state.

Our work is largely funded through community donations. Your support is what makes our work sustainable. This is our first fundraising event since 2017. We will be hearing from our community partners the Los Angeles Community Action NetworkBlack Lives Matter LAYouth Justice Coalition, and Black Alliance for Just Immigration, as well as honoring the work of our comrades Chella ColemanNadia KhanGeneral Dogon, and Palestinian Youth Movement. The evening will also feature exclusive performances by: LA CAN’s Freedom Singers; Miranda Haymon performing a piece from their play In The Penal Colony; Claire Schwartz, whose poetry collection Civil Service is due out this August; Sonny Singh, a Brooklyn-based trumpet and dhol player; and
Maddie Ross, a Los Angeles-based independent artist.
